Toilet Replacements Made Easy: How to Find Your Model Number
SquarePeg|April 21, 2025

You shouldn’t need a plumbing degree to replace a toilet flapper. Or a fill valve. Or a flush handle. When your toilet needs a quick fix, the easiest way to get the right parts is by starting with one simple thing: the toilet model number.
Lift the Lid: Where to Find the Model Number
Toilet model numbers are usually stamped or printed in one of two places:
Inside the tank: Look on the back wall or bottom of the tank.
Under the tank lid: Flip it over to check for a number etched or printed there.
Most model numbers are 4–5 digits, sometimes with letters. If it’s hard to read, take a quick photo and zoom in – much easier than squinting!
Here are some of our most popular brands and where you can find the toilet model numbers:
Kohler: Toilet model numbers are usually located inside the tank. For one-piece toilets, the number is inside the tank; for two-piece toilets, it can be found inside both the tank and bowl. Kohler offers details here!
Mansfield: The toilet model number is stamped inside the tank, often molded into the china or printed on a label inside the tank lid. Mansfield offers a toilet model number guide here.
Vortens: Look for the toilet model number stamped or molded inside the tank or on the underside of the tank lid. It may also be printed on a label.
Western Pottery: Model numbers are typically stamped or printed inside the tank or on the underside of the lid. You can find out more in this guide!
Sloan: Toilet model numbers can be found on labels inside the tank or stamped onto components.
