What Does an Outdoor Motor Do In Your HVAC System?

An outdoor HVAC unit, often called the condenser unit, houses a key component that helps your system stay cool: the HVAC outdoor fan motor.

This key component powers the fan that pulls air through the condenser coil. Its job is to help release the heat your system has removed from inside your home, pushing it out into the outdoor air so your system can keep cooling efficiently.

Here’s how it works

As your AC runs, refrigerant moves heat from your indoor air to the outdoor unit. The outdoor AC fan motor spins the fan blades, pulling cooler outside air over the condenser coil to carry that heat away. This process helps the refrigerant cycle back indoors to absorb even more heat, keeping your home at the temperature you want.
